He and the writing Ruth Jones had comedy herleefGavin & Stacey after a nine-year departure from a special BBC-Christmas special, and the display was watched by 11.5 million viewers, according to BARB figures provided by overnights.tv.
It was the largest British TV audience overnight on Christmas Day since 2008, when BBC One Wallace & Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death aired to 14.5 million people.
The performance means that Gavin and Stacey can be on track to the TV series which are most watched in the United Kingdom once the recording and online visits have been added. Jed Mercurio’s police drama Line of Duty is currently a top position with 12.1 million viewers.
