Many shoppers described a chaotic scene at Kroger grocery stores across the country after the company experienced a widespread issue with its debit and credit card system on Christmas Eve.

Many people voiced their frustrations on Twitter, saying the store was only accepting cash at that time.

A shopkeeper said she waited in the store for two hours, hoping to buy her pre-Christmas groceries.

Kroger has more than 4,000 stores across the country, mainly in the U.S. Midwest and southern part

Kroger released an update on the situation around 2 p.m. EST, saying that “Our EBT system was shut down for a short time. It’s fixed now and is working properly.”
